As much as this blog is about our family, we also want to let people know about the other brothers and sisters who are coming with us in the move to EA. It is an understated privilege to have a small group of people coming with us. They provide us with not only fellowship and friendship, but also extra hands to accomplish our objective. We’re excited to work alongside them and we hope you’re excited to meet and support them with your thoughts!

We shaped the questions to center on their relationship with our home fellowship. As part of obedience to the GC, we want to emphasize the importance of this relationship. Whether going or sending, every believer is to participate in the GC.

This guy loves to travel. Went to a place called Turkey. Some guy named Paul did some great work over there.

Tony is a brother in Christ that I’m getting to know better each time we meet. I’m grateful that a peer is a part of this team and I’m praying that his love for Christ will grow as a result.

1. How were you introduced to BCC?
BCC (then called Harvest Community Church) needed a church facility for sunday worship and ended up using our facility at First Korean Baptist Church of Tustin as I was graduating high school in 1999.
2. Why did you choose BCC as your church?
I chose BCC mainly because of the solid preaching/teaching, which I felt I lacked during my collegian years at UCSD.
3. What is a memorable experience you had at BCC?

Being baptized in Dr./Mrs. Peng’s pool in 2005!

So hard to find solo pics of Tony. This tells me how important relationships are to him. Pic of Tony and his brother.

4. How did you make your decision about EA?
Besides the obvious (Matthew 28:16-20, the great commission and a response to Christ’s love as displayed through His redeeming work on the cross that compels us to share the gospel 2 Corinthians 5:14-15).  As I got older, I felt a greater sense of urgency to share the gospel and believed that there is nothing else worth living for.  Also, as I do not have my own family, kids, mortgage, etc., I believe God has provided a unique opportunity for me to be used and to be a part of the work BCC is doing overseas.
5. What are you looking forward the most in EA?
Looking forward to bringing lost souls to Christ!

Tim Lam is another brother we met through the college ministry. Knowledgeable in tech stuff, he’ll be helping us tremendously in the work and also organizing media stuff for the team.
1. How were you introduced to BCC?
I first heard about BCC through an on-campus fellowship called AACF. I asked someone in the fellowship to take me to a church during welcome week and it ended up being Berean.
2. Why did you choose BCC as your church?
I decided to stick with Berean after going to my first BCC college bible study. The Genesis series had just began a few weeks prior and the depth that P. Aaron went into when describing the narrative blew me away. I decided that Berean would be a perfect fit that night after reflecting on the experience.
3. What is a memorable experience you had at BCC?

One that sticks out was the first all church retreat that I went to at Berean. Not that many college students went so I ended up meeting a lot of BAM  members who I wouldn’t have befriended otherwise.

4. How did you make your decision about EA?
After going on the summer trip I felt a really strong urge to go again. So after a couple months and a lot of prayer, I asked P. Alex to join the team.
5. What are you looking forward to the most in EA?
I’m looking forward to seeing people be saved and come to Christ.

Tim looking dapper with a shirt and tie.

Tim Zeng is the final member to be introduced. He’ll be joining us later in the summer. Responsible and task-oriented, we’re praying for those skills to be used for His glory overseas.
1. How were you introduced to BCC?
I was introduced to BCC through a few older brothers from my home church.
2. Why did you choose BCC as your church?
I chose BCC as my church because it was a church that developed all its teachings and practices through a proper interpretation of the Bible. It was a church that taught the Bible and challenged itself with the Bible. It was one of the first times I’ve heard the pastor conveying that he was willing to be challenged by the congregation on doctrine or practice as long as those doctrines had a Biblical basis.
3. What is a memorable experience you had at BCC?

I went back home to Norcal in the summer of 2014 before my senior year of college. After attending my home church for the summer and returning to BCC, I remember the first Sunday back. It made me realize how much I appreciated Berean as it became my home church and my family.

Not looking so dapper here.

4. How did you make your decision about EA?
During my junior year of college, the opportunity to go to EA presented itself when Pastor Alex announced that he would be heading out soon. I wrestled with what this trip would cost me—not financially, but in other areas such as being gone for a year from all my friends, delaying the start of whichever career path I would choose, and trying to get my parents’ consent. However, as my conviction to share the Gospel grew at this time, I saw that God gave me a heart to reach out to those in EA who had little exposure to Christians and were without any knowledge of Jesus. So I saw the opportunity to participate in the Great Commission in this way, and chose to go.
5. What are you looking forward the most in EA?
I’m looking most forward to the challenges that God will present to us. I have never made such a big move before, I have never had such a big language barrier, and I have no idea what will happen next year. However, I think that is the beauty in me choosing to go and I can’t wait to see how God will use and challenge all of us.
