My Joy, Your Joy, Whose Joy?

I’ve been using the Hamilton Reading Plan to read through the Book in a year. I really like this reading plan because it allows me to focus on just one book from the word instead of splitting my attention to various sections. This month we were able to finish John and there’s just a lot of thoughts that I’ve been putting into my spiritual slow cooker to help my mind and heart understand more of what’s taking place over here.

Hanging Laundry

It hit me one night as I was teaching from the book. I was making a point and I looked to my left and I saw my boxers hanging out to dry in front of everyone. For a second the embarrassing thought entered my mind, “Is anyone else aware that my underwear is just hanging there?” Considering that I’m a pretty big guy, it’s almost like a flag was flying at full mast. I didn’t make a big deal of it that night and it seemed like no one else did, but it does bring me to a lesson that I’ve been thinking about for a few weeks.

Home Sweet Home

We’ve been here for almost five months and the homesickness ebbs and flows. Most of us don’t really have time to think about ‘home’ too often, but we find ourselves missing certain comforts of home – mostly food. I’m sure we’ve all made at least one mental list of things we want to eat if/when we visit/return.

Settling In (Pt. 4)

Community

Living in a college town has been a different experience. It takes me back to the days when we were first married and lived close to UCI. Collegians and grad students are everywhere, as are foreigners. Most restaurants and stores here have signs translated in English and, most of the time, you can order simple things in English.
