August in a Nutshell

Two trips to Hong Kong, four flights, two weeks-ish of travel, several trips to the visa office, two trips to the exit entry bureau, and lots of humidity sweat later, we finally have a work visa!

Because we weren’t aware that we didn’t have all the necessary paperwork the first time we went to Hong Kong, we had to make a second trip to finalize all the paperwork. Right before leaving on our second trip, we found out that a crucial piece of paperwork would not be available in time and that we could potentially have to extend our trip there.

Our little jet-setter.

Long story short, we went in hope that our invitation letter would still be valid and made the trip with our family. Thankfully, the letter was still valid and we finalized everything in three and a half days. On the downside, I had to share a single bed with H for three nights. Needless to say, I came back sleep deprived and couldn’t wait to sleep in my own bed.

A few other highlights:

  • Alex and Flo geared up for a semester with new students at work.
  • Alex and I were asked to be parent volunteers in the nursery on Sundays.
  • I finished up the bulk of my web project.
  • Guys moved into and settled into their new apartment.
  • Had dinner with old friends and were introduced to a great restaurant for Beijing duck.
  • Got to taste the “best burger in Beijing”. It was excellent, although our friends claimed they got food poisoning. We were fine, so I hope it was something else they ate.
  • H had a short bout with a stomach bug and had to take some probiotics. Worked like a charm and his appetite returned with a vengeance.
  • Experienced the best air days we’ve ever had here because of the IAAF.
