As much as this blog is about our family, we also want to let people know about the other brothers and sisters who are coming with us in the move to EA. It is an understated privilege to have a small group of people coming with us. They provide us with not only fellowship and friendship, but also extra hands to accomplish our objective. We’re excited to work alongside them and we hope you’re excited to meet and support them with your thoughts!
We shaped the questions to center on their relationship with our home fellowship. As part of obedience to the GC, we want to emphasize the importance of this relationship. Whether going or sending, every believer is to participate in the GC.
Florence is someone we met during our time serving the collegians at BCC. She encourages us with her servant-like attitude, musical gifts, and her steadfast perspective on life.
1. How were you introduced to BCC?
I was a freshman at UCI in 2009 and was looking for a local church to attend regularly. My brother’s friend told me about BCC and had asked if I wanted to check out the collegian Bible study. Despite the fact that we were 30 minutes late to Bible study and we walked through the wrong door (aka the door that caused everyone to stare at us as we walked in late), I’m glad I checked it out. Soon after attending Bible studies and Sunday services, I became a member.
2. Why did you choose BCC as your church?
BCC was the first church I checked out during my freshman year of college, and it was the last church I checked out. The two reasons why I chose BCC as my church are 1) BCC is a solid Bible teaching church; it was evident that the leaders and members of the church were eager to not only hear the word of God, but to also study and apply the word and 2) the community and intentionality towards each other.
3. What is a memorable experience you had at BCC?
My first year at BCC was a memorable experience for me because I grew so much in my faith. At Friday Bible studies, we read the book of Hebrews and examined how Christ is superior to all. This Bible study was memorable because I gained a deeper understanding of who Christ is to me and it increased my love for the word and for Christ.
4. How did you make your decision about EA?
God has given me multiple opportunities to serve him overseas and through these experiences, he opened my heart for the lost in China. Though I feel unqualified and useless going to a country where I barely know the language and culture, it is humbling and amazing to know that God’s work will be done.
5. What are you looking forward the most in EA?
I’m excited to meet new friends, learn a new culture and language, and to live in a new surrounding. I guess, I’m looking forward to a lot of things! In the midst of all the new transitions, I’m excited to see the work of God’s hands in both small and big ways.
