If there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s this: I’m a really bad test-taker. No matter how much I study, I end up making some dumb mistakes on exams.
Recently, I took my driver’s license test here in BJ. The questions for the test are translated in English, and so you can imagine the grammatical and syntactical problems that may arise. I posted some questions that gave me some difficulty (and general interest) in my previous post. I’ll post some more here so you know what I’m up against.
Anyways, the day of the test came and I took the 1.5 hour trek to the public transportation bureau to take my written exam. It was a pretty rushed day since I woke up late and had to rush over there so I wouldn’t miss the test. It was hectic and nerve-racking. Combine that situation with my notorious record of being a bad test-taker and you can imagine how this went.
In order to pass, you need to get a 90/100. The questions come from a pool of 1,300 questions. If you fail the first time, you are afforded a second chance. If you fail the second chance, you have to reschedule for another test. In school, I was pretty happy and content with getting an 89% on any exam. But when I saw the “89” score show up after the first test, I was upset, but felt I was close enough to get it on my second shot. Unfortunately, I ended up getting another “89.” It was a slow walk out of the building after realizing that I needed to study and come back again to take this test.
To make a long story short, I passed the test when I came back. I changed my approach to the test and it paid off. When the driver’s license arrived, I was pretty stoked. I’ll let the captions to the pictures do the talking. All I know is that I just joined a particular pool of drivers where my driving skills will be put to the test. Anyone want a ride?
