I’ll be posting several “settling in” posts to share our experience with you. We hope they’re as encouraging as they are informative!

Employment

We were blessed to get connected with a friend of a friend of a friend who happened to be looking for English teachers in our area. They even had openings for an I.T. guy and a part-time web designer. PTL! It has become apparent to me that, here, relationship are everything. It’s the only effective way to get connected and to find opportunities.

For anyone considering working here, there are a few caveats. Obtaining a visa can be a little tricky, even if your employer is handling the paperwork for you. You need to provide:

  1. Passport
  2. Clearance paperwork from  the Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (name may vary depend on location)
  3. Visa photos
  4. Letter of Clearance from your local sheriff’s office in the states

If you do not have a letter of clearance, you need to go to the U.S. Embassy to have a copy of your I.D. and a letter requesting the letter of clearance notarized. After all of this, you need to ship everything back to the states and rely on the good graces of a friend or family member to obtain the letter of clearance for you with the notarized paperwork. All this to say, whether you’re choosing to work or not, get your letter of clearance beforehand! Your employer should handle all the rest of the paperwork for you. You also need to exit the country for a few days in order to validate your new visa if you did not obtain a work visa before entering the country.

The company’s CEO is a follower as are most of the teachers and staff members. It’s such a blessing getting to know them and to be able to share common ground. We’re thankful that we’ve found an employer we can trust and a company that is legitimate. It can be challenging to find a company that is c-centered and provides legitimate work. So far we’re confident that this company is both. Full-time is considered roughly 18 hours in the classroom, which provides plenty of time to allocate to min work. I get to work from home so I set my own hours, which is perfect for our family. Those on the team who are teaching start a full-time schedule in July.

More to come soon!
