One thing people who move overseas don’t initially anticipate is how your brain is split into two timelines. You have a timeline for what is going on back at home and a timeline of what you are doing here. It kind of helps explain why time seems to go by so slowly. But anyway, here’s a brief recap of the past two months!

Appreciation Month

Back in the States, October is known for p appreciation month. I wasn’t expecting anything, but on Halloween the team decided to have a taco night. After work, I scootered over to the girls’ place, I step inside and saw this:

It was a pleasant surprise after a full day of teaching English and I didn’t really know how to respond at that moment. I just kind of stared and it took me a moment to realize what the poster was all about. They said surprise and I looked behind to see if someone else was supposed to be surprised. Totally caught off-guard.

It was an encouraging night and reminded me again of how important the community is. It is humbling to be reminded that our family is not in this race alone and that we have a community of brothers and sisters who are willing to sacrifice, serve, and share what is eternally important.

Great community, support, and sources of encouragement.

Thanksgiving Celebration

We celebrated Thanksgiving here and had a great turnout. We invited people who attend our book study and some close friends. It was a good time for good food and good fellowship. We even played a round of Chinese Taboo (and subsequently a lot of repeated “这个”, “那个”, and “什么” from yours truly).

Haddon gotta learn how to share.

Even though some of us were tired after a long day of teaching, there was an energy present that took away the fatigue and helped us to focus on the people who were there.  It’s humbling to see the lives we are impacting and being impacted by. What and where this will lead is still up in the air and it’s something that I’m still seeking answers for.
